I don’t know why, but I’ve developed something of an infatuation with decision-making.

For instance, did you know that 80% of life’s most defining moments take place before age 35?

Just this year, I’ve had to make some pretty big decisions: do I stay in Austin or return to Dallas? (I returned!) Do I stay with the big company or launch my own business? (I launched!)

They weren’t easy decisions to make and they keep begetting additional ones.

You’ve made some similar tough decisions as well – I know because many of you have shared them with me.

  • Should I pursue a new job?
  • Should I start my own business?
  • Where should I live?
  • Which church should I go to?
  • Should I pursue that relationship?

The quixotic side of me says maybe it’ll get easier one day, but for now, this is life.

When I was finishing my book Stand Out!, I realized I had lots of great information about how to execute decisions, but not necessarily how to make decisions. So I added another resource Decision-Making Hacks for Young Professionals.

I wish someone had shared them with me 10 years ago – it would’ve saved me a whole lot of grief!

I don’t know what opportunities are in front of you right now but I do hope you’ll share them with someone. One of my goals for CYP social events isn’t just to add another “hangout” activity, but to provide a peer group of people who are really intentional about life – including the things we say “yes” and “no” and “not yet” to.

Not only that, I’m fairly certain we have many other CYPers who have recently made a tough decision similar to the one you’re considering. Maybe they’ll have their own hacks!
